A factory setup is ALWAYS a compromise. There's no such thing as an optimal setup, individual tastes will vary in terms of what we prefer of comfort and looks.

The way I see it, BMW spends millions in R&D and, along the way, figured out that 18" rims were the right diameter for performance handling on the e38. You can go bigger, with lower profile tires, but at a significant cost from a street-worthiness standpoint.

If you already have 18' rims, do you wish that you had 19' rims? Or if you already have 19' rims, do you wish that you had 18' rims?
I am debating whether I should get 18' or 19'.
Thanks.
