Had an E30 that I ran to 180,000 with no mechanical or electrical failures.

Got an E36, and started to have some mechanical and electrical failures.

Got a Z3 and started having gremlins that the dealer couldn't fix.

My E38 has been it the shop 5 times for the check engline light in the last month. Gas mileage has dropped from an average of 18.9 to 14.2, and they still can't find a problem with it.
