I did mine along with the radiator, aux cooling fan, alternator, thermostat, and belts about 3 weeks ago.
If your's has not been done yet, SERIOUSLY, consider the radiator also. It is prone to fail, and having it out makes the water pump job easier.
The new radiator is something like $250 from www.alloembmwparts.com, and the water pump I believe is $94

The water pump replacement is not that bad of a job. The procedure is straight forward, however adequate preparation is the key to getting it done in the shortest period of time. I am in the process of putting together a DIY water pump replacement guide. I need to take a couple of measurements on some of the tools I "made" to make the job easier. I will try to post more info tonight.

If you are handy with a wrench, you CAN do this.

I seem to have some fluid seepage on our water pump, although it was replaced when the short block was replaced (2) years ago and 30k miles. Anyone replace it? Tell me about it.
