Rollo,

Did you relocate or remove the cassette deck? If you relocated it, were you able to keep the steering wheel controls????

good luck on your new installation.

Hi folks,

I am looking to start my next custom stereo project on the E38. If by chance you are familiar with my existing setup, I have a Pioneer MD head unit where the factory cassette player, with a 6-disc CD changer in the glove box, plus the usual amplifiers and subwoofers.

Since Pioneer has halted production of mini disc head units in the U.S. (but not in other countries for some reason),
I plan to put one of their high-end CD players in the dash, and to connect a slave MD player to it, mounted on a custom console. I'd like to place the console in the armrest area, where the cellular phone currently sits. The MD player has a nice spectrum analyzer display which will look neat at night, at least for the passengers in the rear. Not to mention CD and MD sources at arm's reach, plus awesome Pioneer sound.

Is the removal of the cellular phone console and adjoining storage areas difficult? I tried searching the archives to no avail.

Building the custom console will be the difficult part, although I've been collecting ideas from consoles available on eBay.

Regards.
