7 Series V8s and V12s use chains and don't typically require replacement.

The service interval you saw was probablly a generic one that does not apply to our cars.

JAMES.

I recently had a BMW Service II done on my '97 with 73K miles. I noticed that in BMW's description of everything done during a Service II that they seperate out replacement of the timing belt. It's not really clear that it's recommended/needed during the Service II time frame.

Can anyone recommend whether I should have this replaced? Should I expect it to fail prior to 100K miles?

Thanks for your input.
