It seems to have everyone baffled so I'm going to give you another option. Perhaps somewhere along your exhaust system, prior to the mufflers, some metal is contracting when getting cold (or wet) more than the metal it's attached to and is creating a gap that increases exhaust noise.

Have you had any exhaust work done on the car? you may try spraying water on all exhaust areas after the car is heated up (i'm assuming that's when it happens?) and see if you can replicate the noise.
