99 740 IL Heater (archive)

I recently started using the heater in the car in manual and rarely in auto mode. The heater suddenly starts nlowing cold air for no reason if a window or the roof is cracked. Ihave to shut it down and crank the thremostat to get heat back flowing into the car. Does anyone have any experience with this. The car has 38K miles so it is headed to the shop over the holidays for warranty work on this AND a gas smell in my garage when parked overnight! ( no puddles just a noxious smell when I open the garage each AM. Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks and Happy Holidays...this is a great group on this board!
