Clearly I won't spend the $$ for new fenders like some guys have. But of course if I was preapred to do that I woudn't have bothered to come up wiht this modification plan either. I could have bought new headlight assemblies instead!
I figure I can always get a body shop to fill it, but I have been thinking of a fabricating a metal filler piece which I would rivet in place so it will not break away under stress or over time. It will still take some putty to smooth over the seam and it will need to be painted too, but I don't like the idea of a 2" X 3" glob of putty just stuck in there. I don't see how it could last without some solid backing and support. Maybe the body shop guys will give me a different opinion. I haven't looked into this at all yet. I plan to wait until I have the new lights assembled and installed then I can show the body guys exactly what I want done and how big the space is.
