I've got a '97 iL with 51k miles and love it. I have had no major problems with it and the dealer is typically willing to fix/replace anything that comes up. Just make sure you get a CPO if you can. Fuel consumption is not that great in the city, but as you know, these cars are not light and have 8 cylinders.

Am just about to purchase my first BMW which i want to be a 1996/1997 740i /740il, but i keep reading about all these problems with 7 series? For most of you who've had 7 series for a while, are they really a lot of Headache?
What is the 740i like on fuel consumption?
