The bottom line is the new 7 will out perform and out "gee whiz gadget" our E38s (and anything else in its class for that matter) which will capture a chunk of the performance large sedan buyer market, and those status/style minded drivers who change cars with every model/stlye update WILL NOT be caught dead driving yesterdays news in 3 years...for them their car is a fashion statment and the E38 will be OLD news. The E38 is a great car but when any car has a major revamp the previous old-generation model line craters in resale value (i.e. C4 vs C5 corvette) in the market unless it is such a rare car that supply and demand forces support value of the older generation (i.e. Ferrari 355 v 360) which we both know the E38 is far from a 2-400 model rare production car. Since large luxury sedans are known for their poor showing in the resale market the current E38 will take a hit..how big...who knows. We'll know next year after the the new 7 is out in full force and those gotta have the best performer and those style/status owners dump their E38s onto the market (simple economics more supply - the price drops).
Lets both keep open minded and an eye on the market in the coming months and see whos assessment is correct...If we both live on planet earth I'm sure I'll be proven correct.
