I don't have an answer re number sold, but I think you really need to include all the years that the body style has been available, i.e. 1995 - 2001. Someone else posted that there were,if I recall, about 150 sold in 2001, which is probably the lowest year, so assume there are over 1000 of them. The problem in my opinion as a current lessor of a 1999 750iL, and a former owner of a 1989 750iL, that I had lowered, had a Kaline aero kit, and BBS wheels added, this was going to be a keeper car for me. It looked fantastic. But after spending $6000 over 3 months in repairs, etc. I decided to get rid of it.
The problem in 1995 when I wanted to get ri of it, was a glut of 740s, with similar performance and features, but not as luxurious, for much less.
In my opinion, if the 750s were like the 1959 Cadillac, or the 1974 Mustang, then I could see it having some long term appreciation potential. But by 2020, when this potential value will be possible, you will face the same problem that leaded gas cars of the 70s faced in an unleaded future, if gasoline is still used by 2020.
It will be interesting to see if you get any differing opinions. At least I have owned a couple.
Hi: I am buying a 96 750IL.
i like the new body style (compared to pre95) and the 12v engine. but i also want to see if it could potentially be a collectable car. does anyone know how many of them (roughly) were made/sold in America/world? i can't find the figures anywhere on the web.
and are they really expensive to maintain? i know there are tons of problems for pre-95 models. but couldn't find anything about 96+ models.
Thanks!
Vic
