Can't speak for BMW as my E38 interior is black; however, my Escalade interior is a light tan. I have had no problems keeping it clean. The leather seats are very easy to clean with the proper leather care products. I installed dark brown custom made floor mats over the light colored OEM, and they don't show dirt. Any stains in the carpet have been pretty easy to clean. I have no kids, which makes keeping my vehicles clean much easier! :-)

The saga continues... still looking for a pre owned 740i with sport package. found one but its Oxford green with sand color interior. The carpets are very light color as is the leather seats. will it be tough to keep in clean condition. over all the car is in beautiful shape. The color combo is stunning. This might be the one.
