Brian,

From the sounds of it, you may have a problem with the catalitic converters. Same thing happened to me about a month ago on my 1996. You should also know that by federal law, car makers must warranty the cats for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

I suggest you visit the dealer and plead your case.

Hey guys,

I need some help! My 95 740il recently began idling very rough after driving up a steep grade and the check engine light came on. I recently had a leak down done and the car passed with flying colors. (less than 9% per cylinder) The car has 80K miles. Is it likely that the PCV valve has gone bad. It also makes a loud whistling sound somewhere around the back of the motor.
