just had the pcv valve replaced on mine--diaphragm had gone bad--car would idle rough, almost stalling when cold, and check engine light would come on and stay on--part plus new gasket is only about 60 or 70 bucks, but have to get inside the intake maniforld--so, total job about 4 hours--about a $400 job

My 94 740i just did this last month. Sounds like the same thing. It sounds as if the oil seperator gasket has failed. The rapair job costs about $1k Good luck.


Hey guys,

I need some help! My 95 740il recently began idling very rough after driving up a steep grade and the check engine light came on. I recently had a leak down done and the car passed with flying colors. (less than 9% per cylinder) The car has 80K miles. Is it likely that the PCV valve has gone bad. It also makes a loud whistling sound somewhere around the back of the motor.
