Jay,

I have been using this method with no problems for about 6 years. There is no risk as long as you make sure you insert into pin #'s 7 & 19 and have the ignition turned to the off position while you are attaching and removing the wires. Of course for extra piece of mind, you could purchase a reset tool and know that you cannot insert it incorrectly.
