I find the best solution is to remove the wheels and tires 1-2 a year, thoroughly clean them, front and back, using an aluminum polish to get the stubborn dirt and grime off, then wax them well with a good car wax. The wax makes them easy to clean with a sponge and soapy water, and resists the yellowing effect that occurs in the corners of the spokes, and the rims. It take me about 6 hours to do four wheels, but it is worth it.

I bought a set of 16" Borbet wheels with Artic Alpins (from Tire Rack)for my 740iS to be used for winter driving. The set-up works great! However, with the warm weather this weekend, I had a chance to do an extensive washing of the car. I found that the wheels were very difficult to clean, just the opposite of the stock "S" wheel. Seems that the black stuff adhears to the (aluminum?) wheel and requiires major rubbing to get clean.
My regular wheels clean up well with just a brushing (boars hair of course)with soapy water. Any advice?
