To compare the sales figures of the month that the E38 came out as a new model and adjust it precentage wise for the market BMW was holding at the time. Time will tell if the E65 has staying power. And if ugly really sells. But being from the corporate world, I am sure BMW with call it a success on shortterm results and give Chris Bangle and all of the other executives a big bonus instead of firing him and the rest of the bunch that was in on it.

97 740iL

This month we get to report the first sales of the new E65 7 Series in the United States. Thanks to the new 745i sales of the 7 Series are up a tremendous 85% over January of 2001.

Production of the 745Li will start in March so we should be reporting the first sales of this model in April.

By way of comparison, sales of the Mercedes Benz S Class totaled only 1,256 units this January, down a significant 31.4% from last January.

Exact figures published yesterday by BMW NA are as follows:

MODEL JAN 02 YTD 02 JAN 01 YTD 01
740i (E38) 2 2 230 230
740iL (E38) 0 0 561 561
