You probably have at least one set of bushings that have worn out. The shimmy is usually caused by worn control arm bushings. A mechanic (preferably an independent) can usually tell which ones are shot by looking at them.

Good luck,

I have a 95 740il. The steering wheel shakes when I brake, however there is no shimmy at high or low speeds. Today I started to hear creaking noises comming from the front suspension. When I push down on the from of the car you can hear the noise. I just changed the brakes and rotors 6 months ago. any ideas?
