I have a scratch in the redwood near the gear selector. Is not too deep, but a fingernail will feel it, what to do?
Ron

Ron,

I would try some automotie polishes on it, starting with a fine grade rubbing compound and progressing through finer grades of polish to restore shine. However, if the scratch is too deep for the polish to remove, the only option short of replacing the trim might be to respray it with some clear laquer. You can buy clear laquer in spray cans at home depot. Now, this advice is from somebody who has never actually done this repair, and I am not 100% certain that the factory finish is laquer, but there is a high probability that it is. If so, you could very carefully wet sand the scratch with some 600 grit paper until it is gone, then apply 2 to 3 coats of clear laquer to the entire piece. After it is dry it should look as good as new. A furniture refinisher could do this too for you. Before proceeding, check the dealer for the cost of a replacement panel in case your doesn't turn out the was you want it too.
