Mike - the topic of oil change frequency probably has more srtongly held opinions and less "proof" than any other topic posted. For peace of mind - every 5,000 miles / twice a year sounds good. Some CAUTION on oil flush treatments - I ran a 1987 325i for almost 15 years and had about 110,000 miles on it. Valve adjustments were a routine requirement and I always checked out the looks of things when the cover was removed - clean, clean! For some reason, I decided to do the oil flush treatment on two oil changes. When I had the cover off for valve adjustment after the last oil change / flush - it looked filthy, almost like baked on crud. My best guess is that the flush did free up "sludge" (or whatever) from where it was probably doing no harm and circulated it to my running surfaces. Going forward - NO flush treatments for me. BTW - the little 325i was still running strong & gr8 when I sold it. :-)
