I haven't confirmed this, but apparently the 95' has the 3.15 rear end that is found in later Sport versions. This was to compensate for the somewhat lower torque rating of the 4.0 liter compared to 96' and newer 4.4 liter. From that perspective, you wouldn't gain anything by changing to a newer Sport rear end. The 98' smoked you because it has higher torque. 99' and newer has even higher torque than the 98' also, and in the Sport version it's a great performer.

If you can find a 3.30-3.50 differential that will fit, it would improve your accelleration greatly, at the expense of highway driving. I don't know if such ratios exist that will fit.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

As pointed out by SImeon before though, the 95' will respond better to traditional port/polish job because it's OBDI. Getting 350hp or more should be a breeze with these engines naturally aspirated. OF course, there are very reasonable supercharger kits for these cars as well, and then you're talking 400hp ++

Hope that helped some at least.

T.

Hey Big T...look forward to meeting you at the DC meet! I too have a 95 and am interested in finding out more about the rear end. Do you know how difficult it is to replace the rear end so that I can get more torque off the line? I have a buddy with a 98 and I noticed that he somewhat smoked me.

Does it make sense to find a used rear end off a newer model?
