I have not driven the 740i without the sport package, but with it the handling is quite tight and no float. You can sense that it is a heavy car but its a sweet compromise between luxury and sportiness. I've driven my associates 740il with sport wheels and there is some float but still pretty tight. Sounds like some suspension modifications will solve the problem.


I recently purchased a beautiful new ‘01 Jet Black 740i. It had 56 miles on the odometer when I took delivery. I upgraded from an '86 325 with 192,000 on it. All the fancy bells and whistles on my new 740i are great and the power is awesome but the suspension does not give me the same level of confidence I got from my 325. The car wanders and is affected by wind. It also has a kind of bounce to it at high speeds. I have already had an alignment (under warranty). Can anyone tell me what to concentrate on so I want have to go back and forth to the dealership while they play their guessing game.
