Has anyone been able to program the universal transmitter for a Genie Garage opener? Thanks!

I got a different problem with the opener. I hope you guys can help me with it. (I hope its something simple.) I just got a universal open from Circle BMW this last Friday. I open the cover and see the plug just like in the directions say. I cut the strap and plug it in but no light. I check the connection and its plugged all the way. The directions say the line is suppose to be live. The directions just say if the light doesn't alluminate when the outer buttons (1 & 3) are pressed, it could be a simple problem with the unit not getting power. THEY DON'T TELL ME HOW TO FIX IT!! CAN ANYONE HELP?
