MJ,

Since I'm no "Big-T" and did not have any of the "BMW's recommended special tools", except for the spring compressor, I would rate this DIY as a 7. Even Bavarian Autosports rates it as 3 wrenches out of 4, 4 being the hardest. In hindsight, the one additional "special tool" I would have gotten is the BMW "front strut clamp separator", but a lot of WD-40, cussing, a little gentle hamering and luck helped me get the new struts into the clamp.;) The old ones came out a little easier because they are thinner than the new HD's.

As T said, this is at least a good days work, took me a couple days, with stopping for NCAA final four activities and starting again leisurely. With practically the complete removal of the rear seat and shelf, required for rear strut access, being the most tedious, I recommend you do this first as I did, just to get it out of the way.

Delivered cost for me were $275 for the springs from Tire Rack and $590 for the struts from Zygmunt. I did not think I needed the new upper strut mounts like "T", since my car is only a 2000, sure hope that was not an error.

Good luck if you decide to give it a go and reach out to Big-T, Randy (Green Ox) or myself if you have another question or two. ;)

Regards,
Mike D.

I applaud those who DIY with this kind of work.

Mike, how would you rate this DIY, from a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being easiest and 10 hardest? And how many hours did it takes you, and the total costs of parts (H&R and Bilstein)?

Sorry for too many questions but am sure a few others would want to know also. Thanks!

MJ
