Not sure about the tranny, however the timing chain is not something you need to worrry about. There is a hydraulic tensioner on the chain that makes up for any chain stretch over time.
Off the top of my head, here is a short list of problematic systems/items that should be or could be approaching the end of their service lives:

Catylic Converters
Lower Control arms / tie rods
Radiator
Water Pump / thermostat housing
Instrument cluster (missing pixel problem)

I am sure that there are others that can add to this list.

95' 740i


I am buying a car that has 97K miles. The short block was replaced by BMW at the 31K mark, it now has 66k miles on the new short block. The car is approaching the 100K miles service. Do you guys know what major changes/replacement are to be made on this car on the 100k mark? I am worried about the transmission, timing belt or chain on this car? Anything else that requires a check up for the 100k milestone?
