The front tires on my 2001 740iL are wearing much more on the outside edges (approx 2") than the rest of the tire. Both front tires are affected. I have the 18" M Parallel spoke wheel option with OEM Michelin tires.
The car now has 18K miles. The alignment was checked by the dealer at 13K and on Friday 03/05/02 at 18K - both times at my request - and found to be within spec each time and no adjustments needed. Most of the wear has occured after the 13K check - or at least it is has been much more noticable.
I always check/maintain the correct air pressures - sometimes using the higher pressures and other times at the lower pressures as recommended on the door frame sticker...
The car drives normally - my only complaint is the abnormal tire wear on both front outside edges, the rears are wearing evenly and may last another 1-2k miles. I realize tire replacement is in my near future and from what I've read on this board - my mileage seems about average.
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this type of wear on the new set of tires?
I haven't decided on replacement tires, and remain open to any recommendations. Thanks.
