Supposedly there is an oil breather valve or something on the rear of the engine that is prone to failure. While this isn't a serious problem, it 's a bit of work to access it because of its location. Depending on how much of DIY you are it's probably something you'll want to have your dealer look at. I'm just saying this may be the source of your problem, so don't take my word for that it's the one for sure.
Good luck!
T.
I've got a 1999 740il with about 51k on it. Last night it started making a loud whining sound, and emitting blue smoke while my wife was driving it. She called and I went down to check on it and when I started it, there was no whining, but it did emit blue smoke and ran kind of rough.
Any ideas?
