I don't know, there's only one setup available for the E38 (unless you count the variations of the same shock from Dinan et.al.). I have heard that for other applications the HD is the milder of the two.

Basically your choice is Bilstein HD, that's it. I also heard that they were not recommended with lowering springs, but I'm using them and many others and i"ve never heard of anyone having problems with that combo.
