the *Premium Sound* system with DSP, the rear shelf doesn't just lift out after removing the seat backs. The shelf is actually in two sections. The factory *subwoofer* (haha) unit must be unbolted. First remove rear deck speaker grills by gently prying up the front of the grill with a flat blade screw driver. Inside the grills are two *star* screws holding the subwoofer cover in-place. Once you remove the sub unit's outer covering, there are three bolts that need to be removed from the sub unit. The sub unit then lifts up and forward, but be careful with the wiring harness on the left side. You don't have to completely remove from the car, but once this is out of the way, you can then lift the rear section of the shelf forward and out. You can see a couple shots of the rear battle zone on Page 8 of the link below.
