Search server had a meltdown. Parts on their way (223 views) (224 thread views)
Message: I want to update everyone on the search situation.

Around midnight on Sunday night (11/9/08) the server which handles the forum search function decided it had worked hard enough. One of the hard drives failed and at the same time must have sent some bad data into the RAID card because the data on the other drive became corrupted. The data blocks on the remaining hard drive had become so damaged that the server would not reboot.

Since it's better to experience the "no search" pain once rather than twice I am taking advantage of this downtime and I am updating the internals of the new search server. The new parts have been ordered and should be here tomorrow. If the parts get here tomorrow morning I should have the server back on the rack by the end of the day and search should start functioning Friday morning.

In the meantime, here's how to use Google to search the forums. Using the general Google.com search engine isn't very comprehensive but it's better than no search at all.

Typing site:roadfly.com at the beginning of Google search box and then following up the roadfly.com with your search query will yield search results from Roadfly.com only.

For example, typing “site:roadfly.com fix my X5 breaks” will search Google for the phrase “fix my X5 breaks” and Google will limit the search results to Roadfly pages.
