Re: 86' 535i. Cold starts very rough idle with raw gas (12 views) 
Message: have you looked at the left side of the engine right after it starts? My car was leaking gas from the hose that goes to the Cold Start Valve (injector) and you could see it pouring down. As for the rough idle when cold, I would check the thermo-time switch per Bentley's. I have a similar problem currently but without the gas smell and I'm suspecting leaking injectors.
