| Message: | 20w50 in summer. 10w40 in winter. Not synthetic. I don't think these engines need synthetic oil. I've been using regular oil for a long time and the engines always outlast the rest of the car. My '86 Jetta had 264000 hard miles. I sold it with an excellent engine, which had never been apart. My '95 325i has 217000 miles. The engine is still original and runs great. Engine longevity is the last thing I worry about on this car. I don't doubt that synthetic oil performs better in lab tests. I just don't believe it makes a difference with our engines, with normal maintenance, under normal conditions (99.99% of us). | ||||
