Pixel Display MID E38 (151 views)
Message: For my '96 740il (170K miles) I ordered a replacement ribbon strip from Pixelfix.net ($60 USD delivered from a mfg's rep in Budepest, Hungary) on 10/9 and received it on 10/26. I installed it in about 2 hours at my kitchen table following the part's accompanying replacement instructions. I got 100% of my MID pixel display back.

You need to buy the $11 Torx Set to properly disassemble the MID unit (its available on Amazon - from Anytime Tools). Its the set that includes the T3 (very small) driver (that's the size of the torx screw head). If you're not mechanically inclined, don't try this yourself. It's very meticulous work. If you have a buddy or shiela that's good with a wrench, ask them if they're up to the challenge. Most mechanics love a challenge. BMW wanted btw $250 - $800 to replace the MID, depending on the MID model.
