The lead accident investigator for AF447 (he's french, not that that matters) today announced that the aircraft "plunged vertically into the Atlantic Ocean intact at a very high speed."
How is it then, that searchers have found 50 (or more) intact bodies? Reports have suggested some of the bodies were missing clothing (consistent with being thrown into a 500mph airstream) and had numerous fractures (also consistent with the in-flight breakup theory).
I can't remember a traditional (as opposed to mid-air breakup) airliner crash that left such a large number of bodies - typically there are just small pieces of debris left.
