they gave you an OEM light?? (m) (3750 views) 
Message: I broke one of my retro-fit celis lights in a car accident, (97 540). Purchased an OEM tail light that fits a 2001-2003 e39. The bad news is that it looks the same but the it's NOT the same as the ones you get in the retro-fit kit. It looks the same, it plugs in the same and will light up but the black plastic that covers the back of the light is different. when you put it in, you have about a one inch gap from the lights to the qt panel. I ended up returning the light. If this is the same situation, then the only way it will fit is if you bang the_shit out of the rear panel to compensate for the gap. If i misunderstood your post please disregard this message.
