| Message: | Is it better to have the car warmed up before its tested? Absolutely - as warm as you can get it. I knew someone with an older car who would sit in the line at the testing facility with one foot on the accelerator and one on the brake revving it up in Drive to make it heat up so that it would pass emissions. These engines emit the most pollutants when they're cold. That's why it is recommended you don't let a cold engine idle to warm up - start driving immediately because it warms up much quicker under load and thus reduces emissions much faster.
