| Message: | | I'd be questioning the "overall service life" of the engine if I were buying again....especially if I were buying a car with significant mileage and/or expected to have it for an extended period of time. In other words, how well the engine performs, and continues to perform, after x-number of miles (i.e., 1/4 million).
Ultimately, if cost is the true concern, as you suggest, I think it's a fools game. The fact is, regardless of the engine, these cars can be costly to maintain and repair. If the cost difference between driving/maintaining/repairing a V8 (vs. an I6) will put a buyer past the financial breaking point, it's probably not the right car to be buying.....with either engine.
From my experience, there are other, non-engine, factors that are just as much of a "cost of ownership" concern (i.e., wheel size, staggered wheel set ups, sport vs. non suspension.....things that increase/decrease the frequency with which parts are replaced, etc.).
