There is always power at the fan connector, even(m (56 views) 
Message: after you shut the engine off. The small wire in the connector that goes to the DME is what controls the speed by sending PWM (square waves) signals to the fan controller. I think the frequency varies from 10-100Hz.
This info is for 99 and up E39's (M7.2 DME's)
