Steering column extends despite memory (158 views) (265 thread views) 
Message: Hi all,

I recently acquired a 2000 M5 and am slowly looking to fix the minor details. One of these details is that the steering wheel, which moves up upon ignition off and down upon start, also telescopes to its full length whenever I unlock the car and open the door. I have all 3 seat memory settings set to have the steering column at its shortest length; when I press a memory button, the column returns to the memorized length. However, it still insists on telescoping out every time I unlock the car. What could be the culprit?
