PICS of my M3s MAJOR INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE...(m) (6675 views) (12116 thread views)
Message: Well here are some of the pics I took when I had my engine failure... As you can see it wasn't pretty...

Looking at the cylinder wall pictures you can notice the corrosion on the cylinder wall itself!!! Not good!

Some history for those who don't know. A few months back while driving to work my engine went to $hit...
Turned out to be the broken valve as seen in the pics. The valve itself broke (exhaust valve), touched the piston (#5 cylinder) and leaked sodium throughout the cylinder (the M3s valve stems are sodium filled). At first they were going to try and just rebuild the engine... Unacceptable to me... Then to just give me a new head... Unacceptable again... When the bottom end came off and the piston came out that is when I saw the corrosion on the cylinder wall itself...

My best guess as to what caused the corrosion is that when the valve broke, it contaminated the cylinder with sodium particles. While waiting on a million things (regional techs/ BMW NA dragging their A$$ES!!!) it seems as if the sodium reacted with the moisture in the air and caused the corrosion. My best guess...

And before anyone says it... No I did NOT miss a down shift to cause this... My own account as well as the telemetry concur...

I decided to post this as BMW NA has still been jerking my chain around about some other things... At first I didn't want to give any bad press or post any pics of my M3's engine. But after the way I have been dealt with by them on some issues... $crew em! They really don't care about a single individual driver/owner, they just don't... plain and simple.... But that is to be expected by any large company, one car out of thousands doesn't matter.. And what I am looking for is not anything major, it would be very VERY easy to satisfy me but they just would rather try and $crew me over... Oh well... . Will I still buy another M car? probably. Unless someone else comes out with something better...
They are just dam lucky that their M cars are so nice that they make up for the $hitty customer service... Not dealer but BMW NA.

Anyone think Car and Driver or Motor Trend would be interested in these.......?????..... =) just kidding... or not...

Happy motoring!

-Brian
