Actually my engine was replaced Also. - BMW M3 (E46 M3) Message Board & Forum

To the guy who said he obviously over revved. I had about 6500 miles on my car, never been driven hard and never overrevved. I was driving along the NJ turnpike and all of a sudden a loud CLANKING noise came out from under my hood. I had it brought into BMW, and they replaced my entire engine. I was never told the root cause but something went wrong with a bearing and one of the cylinders.

Eitherway, maybe his case was different, but my engine went bad for no reason what so ever.
