Another engine disintegrates. (1972 views) (6610 thread views)
Message: Ok, i was driving home last Friday night from work, 9:30pm. I was driving pretty fast to get home and was doing about 90mph in 4th gear, had to come to a quick stop(cop) and hit the brakes hard and instinctively downshifted into 3rd, somewhere around 85mph and then proceeded to downshift until i came to a stop at a redlight. When i hit the gas to take off a loud noise was coming from the engine. I slowly drove home, about a mile away, popped the hood , couldn't see anything, but there was a pinging type noise in there. I was sick. So, early saturday morning i had road side assistant tow it to my dealer about 6 miles away. They sent a "field engineer" to look at it today and he said there was metal in the oil pan and that a rod bearing had "disintegrated" They would replace the rod that bent and the crank. Then they would open the head and see if there was damage to the cylinder wall, if there was they would replace the engine. It would take 2 to 3 weeks for a new engine. They said they don't know how it happened and why. But, did say it was 2 quarts low on oil, which i said my light did NOT come on and how could it be 2 quarts low when i just had my 1200 mile service 3800 miles ago. He said i know, we have a problem. Anyway, i just wanted to post that after driving the car for 4 months and 5000 miles, i might need a new engine. I am sick about it. I love this car, waited over 15 months for it!! Wanted to know if this all sounds legit and if i should push for a whole new engine. Also, if this may have happened to anybody else. I appreciate it man. I wanted some advice on if you think the car will ever be the same again????
