| Message: | Well, it's almost been a week since I took my car in for service so I thought I'd post an update on the situation. My M3 was brought in with "check engine soon" warning two weeks ago. Problem was diagnosed to be sensors in the catalytic converter... computer was reset, car was test driven by the tech, no errors resurfaced so I was on my way. Over the following weekend I notice a metallic tapping sound coming from the front, akin to a diesel engine... starting at 2k/rpm and building louder from there. At this point I take the car into the dealership as an "emergency" visit. During that week, the subframe was dropped with the engine lifted and opened up. It turns out 3 crankshaft bearings have "spun" and I require a new longblock, hence new engine. At this point (last week) it is unknown when I might be able to get one as there are none in the U.S. at that point. I start considering my options... Update this morning.... Surprise! Every part for my car has arrived except one (not sure what yet, awaiting word). And it looks like the transplant will begin ASAP... I'm going to pick up another loaner car tomorrow and will post followups as soon as there are major updates worth mentioning. At this point I've been satisfied with the promptness and professionalism in getting this problem rectified. to be continued... -loki | ||||
