The DME thought there was a lean burn situation and switched to "limp home" with a 4000 RPM redline. Like you, once I pulled over, shut down and re-started, the problem went away. It sounds like "limp home" mode could be what hit you. Why, is another question. Someone else posted here several weeks ago with a situation very like yours, in fact he was on a cloverleaf on-ramp, accelerating to the freeway.
