| Message: | Right before my '03 M3 came off warranty I bought the extended warranty and maintenance plan. I think I paid about $2,500 for the extended warranty, and $1,200 for the maintenance package. Was it worth it??? I my case, ABSOLUTELY! However, it all depends on the risks that you are willing to take. I drive my car in the way it was built to be driven. So, two months ago, just before 70k miles on the odo, I took it in because the clutch was starting to slip. The dealership replaced the clutch, flywheel and a couple other things. I am not sure if this was covered under the warranty or maintenance plan, but it got covered. After looking through some papers I found that the clutch is specifically excluded from the extended warranty. However, the extended maintenance plan made no exclusion of the clutch. Anyway, to make a long story short, it is up to you to decide if it is worth it or not. Most likely, if something does go wrong, you can probably find a good independent shop to do the work for much lower cost than the dealership (if you decide not to get the CPO).
