| Message: | go to M3 f-o-r-u-m dot n-e-t and search for both the class action verbiage and subframe tear threads with fixes and pics. You don't have to remove anything to see them, but an untrained eye may not find them if just starting. I'm wondering w/o re-reading what I mention above... part of this settlement says they'll pay for fixes done BUT I don't know the timing. So it MAY be a possibility that you have it inspected - and if needed fixed - by an indie and they pay the bill, but I expect that time may have passed. Regardless, if I had a good relationship with my dealer, I'd ask them their position on aftermarket parts - frankly, slammed cars or high spring rates HAS to effect the likelihood of a problem. that doesn't obviate the fact that they have a weak design, but it likely does get them past Magnuson act (prove a linkage between aftermarket parts and a problem), so it's a judgement call they get to make. If you don't have a good relationship or they say no dice with mods, I'd take it to an indy mechanic with heavy, hopefully track-prep, BMW experience for an inspection, then decide: 1. put back to stock if you have parts. 2. if there are no problems now found by indy mechanic, accept the risk. If you find the right shop to do the welding, I expect you could get most of this done for $1000-$1500. | ||||
