| Message: | It works! Just as described in the BMW SIB (posted in this thread by Jonathan Spira), after I received a SW-only retrofit (on my June 2004 production 645Ci), I was able to pair my phone using Bluetooth with my car. Total charge to connect the Bluetooth cable and complete the procedure: $100 (a great deal versus the original cost of the Bluetooth option!). The BMW Customer Assistance folks are completely up to speed on this procedure as well - nice to see. I spoke with Todd (BMWNA Customer Assistance) who was very knowledgeable about this process and the early implementation, as he had discussed the implementation several times with the pioneer, pharding (who just got his E60 retrofitted by MotorWerks of Barrington, IL). Great job, BMW! Find a Compatible Handset - Not all Bluetooth phones will work! Unfortunately, my current phone does not yet work with my car, but I anticipated this (my do-everything SonyEricsson P900 lacks a "handsfree profile" required to work with the BMW implementation of integration of cell phone and car). The phone can "pair" (recognize, connect and exchange data woith the car using a Bluetooth radio connection), but the phone is incable of communicating properly using the additional, optional Bluetooth procedures that BMW has implemented. Be sure to consider handset compatibility before you expect this to work. There are official (short) and unofficial (extensive) notes on handset compatibility posted elsewhere in this thread. So I'll be looking for a software upgrade for my phone or a replacement handset (probably a P910a, which has the handsfree profile). Robert --- MY2004 645Ci Mystic Blue and CreamBeige ![]() | ||||
