My 1st test drive & pics of the New Z4M Roadster (2695 views) (6275 thread views)
Message:

Hello-

The Z4M is not new “news” by now but I wanted to tell my friends here on Roadfly about my introduction to it. I have been driving Z4s for three years now and I just had to get my hands and feet around this one! I do enjoy driving them and taking pictures of HOT Sports Cars! This one turned out to be a real FLIRT both ways!

My comments here are from a person who is not a mechanic or experienced on the track . I do love driving my Z4s in a quick, agile style that allows the car “out to play” – and me too! I am always in search of the perfect shift series – unless when I am caught at a light with my mind somewhere else! And I do enjoy taking photographs of cars. I am constantly trying to capture the most emotional face of a beautiful car. Here is my recent experience:

I got a call from my Salesman, Steve Burris, at 7:30am that their first Z4M was at the dealership and for me to hurry over – he did not know how soon until it would be called back to their other location. Arriving there an hour later, it was waiting under the canopy with it’s twin dual exhaust pipes and the ///M symbol the only sign that it might be more than just another triple black BMW.

Steve and I did a very respectful walk around, being joined by the General Manager Brandon Meyers . All three of us had big lusting smiles as we walked rings around the car stopping to look under the hood and inspect the trunk. Under the hood, the engine looked massive. I thought “an aggressive car like this needs strut bars for the way it demands to be driven”! In the rear of the trunk area there is an additional carpeted box (for the battery I think) with the an air pump and tools also found in other ///M cars.

As a "Wheel Person", I think BMW has done a great job on their new wheels this model year! Very impressive brake upgrade over the 3.0! I like the double crease in the hood and tail light changes that signal a modest body facelift.

On sitting in the car, I was please that the “M” seats fit my "not-so-M” body. Now that is the best reason for my last six months of excercise and diet! The leather seemed to be of a better quality here also. Looking around the cabin, the next thing I noticed was the unique texture to the dash and console trim. A sort of small weave pattern that I could not feel with my finger but looked expensive. Much of the interior was familiar with small upgrades or changes. Interestiing stitching around the steering wheel!

Finally I said “lets give it a go!”.

Engine and exhaust sounds were strong and powerful and in balance with the class of car they were coming from. Leaving the dealership, I turned around a highway divider and headed the car north, pressing the gas and letting out the clutch with the shifter in first. WOW - a huge lunge forward! And shifting into second, just as powerful! I guess I was in shock because I hit the next shift points as if I was driving my 3.0. I then shifted through my first full series of gears to sixth - GREAT! - before I had to slow down for cars ahead. Power and precision! It’s my impression that the clutch engages sooner than my six speed and a little harder to push down. Steering felt tighter yet responsive to my urging for it to be playful AND fast.

Up the road we turned into an office and technology center (not a human being in sight!) where we cruised the feeder roads at +__MPH. It was very sure footed in the turns, even as I applied additional gas for more zoom. I thought it felt just a little heavier than my Z4s. We had a couple runs that pushed the RPMs a little higher in lower gears but still respecting the fact that this car had only 49 miles on it.

I stopped in an employee parking lot to take my pictures, inspecting the detail and beauty of the Z4M again. During the drive back to the dealership I drove it in a SPIRITED but not overly aggressive manner. We didn’t play the radio or talk – just listened to the car!

Art and Engineering!

I am a very fortunate to own/lease two Z4s, each for the right reasons. Everyday life is now a special driving experience no mater which one is rolled out.

If it was time to buy today, it would be a Z4M!

A big thanks to Steve Burris who has helped me purchase or lease five BMWs. Thanks to the fine support staff at “All Pro Imports” in Gainesville, Florida that take great care of my cars and make me feel like family!
