Message: Way back when this post started I was Dave M.

They replaced my power steering unit twice. The first time, almost no one had heard of the problem so they just installed a new non-retrofitted unit. The problem didn't change. Finally, they redesigned some component (I don't know that anyone outside the thick walls and barbed wire of BMW ever really knew what it was.) They gave me one of the first (as far as I know) redesigned units about the same time Bombayduk got his.

My problem was 98% solved too. After sitting in the heat, the problem is still there if you really look for it, but it's very minor now and goes away before I can get too upset. It is annoying thought that they never truly fixed it 100%.
