SMG Glitch (1067 views) (2910 thread views)
Message: I had a bit of an "issue" with my five day old 3.0 SMG. As per the manual I always leave the trans in gear when I shut off the engine. When I went to restart I stepped on the brake, moved the lever to neutral, but the engine would not crank. I turned the key off and on and moved the shift lever again but the trans could not seem to find neutral as the indicator still said 1. I could hear some mechanical commotion going on and after about 45 seconds N appeared and I was able to start the motor. However when I shifted into reverse and later first it acted as though the clutch was not locking up. The engine revved to 3000 rpm before the car began to move. By this time I was exiting the parking lot wondering what in the hell I was going to do. I pulled onto a small street, made a strange-feeling shift into second, and then everything returned to normal for the remainder of the day.
